Damascus University completes behavioral codes to regulate university community members
Damascus University finalizes behavioral codes for faculty, students, and staff to ensure a proper educational environment.

Damascus University is working to complete the project of preparing behavioral codes, which aim to regulate the relationship between members of the university community and control interaction mechanisms within and outside the university campus, including professors, students, and administrative staff.

Deputy President of Damascus University for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Ihdab Abu Yunis, clarified in a statement to SANA today, Monday, that the university has finished preparing the behavioral code for faculty members and is nearing completion of the behavioral codes for students and administrative staff.

For her part, Abu Yunis pointed out that the widespread dissemination of these codes will take place upon the completion of updates to the university website, noting that the behavioral code for students is currently being prepared in collaboration between the university, the Student Union, and the Ministry of Administrative Development, to unify efforts within a single framework covering all categories within the university.

She added that the behavioral codes constitute a clear summary of the duties and tasks that every individual within and outside the university campus must adhere to, whether they are faculty members, students at various academic stages, or administrative staff, explaining that the primary goal is to define interaction rules and university ethics within and outside the campus, thereby ensuring a sound educational environment.

According to Abu Yunis, the codes include determining interaction mechanisms among researchers themselves, dealing with public facilities and infrastructure, controls on internet use, as well as regulating the use of artificial intelligence in preparing research and refereeing, and preventing content fabrication or any practices that undermine university values. They also include a review to clarify certain points affecting daily life on campus regarding rights and duties, which prevents violation of regulations or harm to the university's entity.

Abu Yunis emphasized that the preparation of the codes came after an in-depth reading of everything related to daily university life, in addition to reviewing decisions concerning the relationship between students, professors, and administrative staff, with the aim of drafting a concise and easy-to-understand document that clarifies rights and duties and sets clear interaction rules, in line with the law regulating universities, and provides a simplified version that can be referred to without complexity.

Abu Yunis noted that these codes will serve as a unified reference for all members of the university community, facilitating the handling of complaints, enhancing discipline, and ensuring an educational environment based on respect and responsibility.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Administrative Development launched the draft functional behavioral code for public interaction on February 26 last month, as part of consolidating an institutional culture based on integrity, neutrality, and responsibility.
