The health sector in Daraa governorate has witnessed rehabilitation and development works over the past two years, covering hospitals and health centers, alongside strengthening medical and administrative staff and expanding primary and secondary healthcare services, as part of the Ministry of Health and Daraa Health Directorate's efforts to improve service levels for citizens and reduce the burden of treatment and travel to other governorates.
Daraa Health Director Dr. Khaled Al-Amian stated in an interview with SANA on Thursday that the directorate has focused on supplying health centers, facilities, and hospitals with necessary staff, having contracted 1,541 new employees, including 361 physicians, 76 dentists, 13 pharmacists, 96 university degree holders, 288 administrative staff, and 734 employees dismissed for revolutionary reasons, according to figures from the directorate.
Al-Amian pointed out an increase in primary healthcare services from 156,000 to 226,000, and secondary services from 142,000 to 180,000, during the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, while the number of centers with dental clinics rose from 13 to 40.
Rehabilitation of Daraa National Hospital
Al-Amian clarified that Daraa National Hospital saw the rehabilitation of its destroyed departments with support from the 'Abshiri Hawran' campaign and Samaz Organization, and was equipped with MRI and CT scanners, a free laser lithotripsy center, and new cardiac catheterization and upper and lower endoscopy departments.
He noted that development works included securing two oxygen generation stations for Izraa and Busr al-Khayr National Hospitals, rehabilitating the oxygen station at Nawa Hospital, supporting Izraa Hospital with solar energy, and preparing to lay the foundation stone for a heart surgery hospital in Sidna.
For his part, Dr. Muhammad Abd al-Hamid Al-Rwashida, head of the cardiology department at Daraa National Hospital, stated that the department, opened about six months ago, performed approximately 700 interventional procedures and implanted two permanent pacemakers, highlighting its role in early intervention for heart attack patients and reducing complications and treatment burdens.
Al-Amian indicated the directorate's move towards gradually implementing digital transformation and automation, developing health staff capabilities, and improving service levels, a step aimed at developing Daraa's health infrastructure and enhancing the capacity of medical facilities to meet citizens' needs.
