The Emergency Response Committee in Deir Ezzor province has warned residents of Bukamal city and its outskirts, especially those living near the course of Wadi al-Sawab and on the banks of the Euphrates River, about the risks of expected floods. The committee, in a circular published today, Wednesday, via the province’s channel on the Telegram app, urged citizens to immediately and completely stay away from the riverbed and its tributaries, and to evacuate homes, tents, and agricultural sites near the riverbanks, moving to safe areas.
Strict preventive measures
The committee called on citizens not to cross watercourses or roads affected by floods under any circumstances, and to move livestock and property to high and safe areas, given expectations of heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash floods coming from the desert towards Wadi al-Sawab. The committee emphasized the importance of adhering to these warnings and preventive measures to ensure public safety and avoid risks resulting from weather phenomena.
Complete suspension of transport and bridges
In the same context, the Passenger Transport Directorate in Deir Ezzor has suspended all transport trips to other provinces due to prevailing weather conditions, with the suspension to remain in effect until further notice. This followed the committee's announcement of a complete halt to all floating bridges in the cities of Deir Ezzor and Mayadin, in order to ensure public safety and avert risks arising from thunderstorms and the danger of lightning.
