Latakia governorate faces increasing difficulties in securing the diesel fuel needed for transport drivers, as the shortage has persisted for four days, causing their work to halt and significantly delaying the movement of passengers, students, and goods. This interruption occurs amid recurring fuel crises and their negative repercussions on drivers' livelihoods and various daily obligations.
Several drivers told SANA correspondents that the fuel shortage forces them to wait for long hours at gas stations without knowing when supplies will be available, leading to wasted time and disrupted work. Freight driver Mustafa Masri stated that the fuel was available last week before the crisis recurred, noting that he has been waiting in line at one station since yesterday without knowing when the fuel will arrive.
For his part, school bus driver Mohammad Abdul Karim explained that the diesel crisis hinders his work transporting students from their homes to schools and vice versa, noting that he waited from 8:00 PM until 6:00 AM to fill 40 liters of diesel, an amount insufficient for the bus's needs. In turn, goods vehicle driver Suleiman Suleiman, coming from the Idlib countryside, stated that he has been waiting since 11:00 AM to fill up diesel and resume his work after his vehicle ran out.
Nabil Shariqan, driver of a vehicle operating on the Bin Jawza-Latakia route, indicated that he waits for his turn for several hours and fears being unable to continue working the next day if he cannot obtain diesel. The diesel crisis affects the transport sector in Latakia governorate, causing delays in citizens' travel and goods delivery, as well as financial losses borne by drivers due to work disruptions and long waiting periods.
The worsening fuel crisis comes as government and supervisory authorities continue to monitor the energy sector file and secure petroleum derivatives, with recent periods seeing strengthened measures to regulate distribution operations, monitor markets, and curb monopolies in various governorates.
