Egyptian Foreign Minister Confirms Gulf Security is Part of National Security
Egyptian FM stresses Gulf security is integral to national security, warning of escalation's regional impact.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati confirmed that the security of the Arabian Gulf is an inseparable part of Egypt's national security, emphasizing his country's firm rejection of attacks on Gulf states and the necessity to adhere to principles respecting state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs. This came during his participation in a session titled "Pillars of Regional Security" within the proceedings of the 22nd edition of the Manama Dialogue forum in Bahrain.

For his part, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed Abdel Ati's statement that military escalation in the region poses serious challenges to regional and international security and stability, negatively impacting the global economy and food and energy supply chains, while warning of the widening scope of confrontation and its repercussions. He pointed to the importance of transitioning from crisis management logic to building a regional early warning and rapid response system to prevent crises from erupting.

The Egyptian minister added that Egypt's vision for enhancing regional security is based on respecting the rule of law, non-use of force, and refraining from interfering in the internal affairs of states, relying on diplomacy and wisdom in resolving disputes. He also stressed the necessity of enhancing the concept of regional ownership and shared responsibility in safeguarding security and stability, and preserving the security of navigation, energy, and vital infrastructure.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Abdel Ati reiterated the necessity of reaching a just settlement based on establishing an independent Palestinian state with sovereignty on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, while rejecting displacement, annexation, and settlement. The Egyptian House of Representatives had approved on October 26 this year, by a two-thirds majority of members, to authorize President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to take necessary measures in coordination with Saudi Arabia to defend its territories amid repeated attacks by the Houthi militia.
