Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held two phone calls today, Tuesday, with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah and his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, to discuss developments in the regional situation amid escalation in the region.
The Egyptian minister and his Saudi counterpart agreed on the importance of making efforts during the current stage to push for negotiation tracks, prioritizing diplomacy and the language of dialogue, and working to de-escalate tensions. Abdelatty reiterated his country's complete rejection and condemnation of any threat to the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries, considering it part of Arab national security.
For his part, Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of working to contain current tensions and prevent the conflict from widening, warning of the serious repercussions of any new military escalation on the security and stability of the region. He also stressed the importance of making room for diplomatic tracks and dialogue to address existing crises.
He pointed out Egypt's keenness to continue close coordination with Iraq to support de-escalation efforts and safeguard regional security, as well as to preserve the security and freedom of navigation in international sea lanes, amid increasing regional and international diplomatic activity to contain tensions in the Gulf and Red Sea regions.
These communications come amid rising concerns about the security of maritime navigation and its impact on international trade, where the Egyptian minister exchanged views regarding the moves and contacts being made by each side to try to restore de-escalation and spare the region from a new wave of military confrontations.
