Opposition Israeli party "Yesh Atid" leader Gadi Eisenkot considered on Thursday that the continued presence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz in power constitutes a danger to Israel's security. This came in a post by the former Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army on the American platform "X", in response to Katz holding opposition leaders responsible for any future attacks on Israel.
Eisenkot said: "The Defense Minister is paving the way for the next disaster, trying to anticipate events by shifting responsibility onto others." He added: "It is absurd and represents an unprecedented decline for a Defense Minister to hold his political opponents responsible for attacks that the enemy might launch, even before they occur." He described the army's leadership as corrupt and dangerous despite its strength.
Eisenkot continued: "Netanyahu and Katz have proven that their staying in power comes before any other consideration for them." He stressed that "every additional day they remain in their positions poses a danger to Israel's security." He pointed out that "in five days, we will put an end to this through the ballot boxes."
For his part, Katz held opposition leaders responsible for "any attack on Israel, and for all future terrorist acts, God forbid they occur." He clarified that these attacks would be recorded under the names of Yair Lapid, Naftali Bennett, Yair Golan, and other members of the opposition. He accused them of continuously attacking him and Netanyahu, and questioning their security assessments based on information regarding the intentions of Israel's enemies.
These statements come amid uncertainty regarding the Israeli elections scheduled for next Tuesday. A series of government statements have spoken of potential attacks from Iran on Israel, or Israeli attacks against Iran, prior to the voting date.
