Emergency Directorate Warns of Sea Disturbance in Latakia and Tartus Until Sunday
Syria's Emergency Directorate warns of rough seas off Latakia and Tartus coasts until Sunday, October 18.

The Ministry of Emergency Affairs and Disaster Management has renewed its warning about a sea disturbance affecting waters off the coasts of the Latakia and Tartus governorates, expected to last until next Sunday, October 18.

The National Center for Meteorology and Climate, under the ministry, stated that wave heights will range between 0.5 and 1.7 meters, with peak disturbance occurring from Thursday until Friday morning. During this period, wave heights will exceed one meter, reaching 1.7 meters, accompanied by wind speeds ranging from 20 to 30 km/h.

In this context, the Early Warning and Preparedness Department of the ministry called for halting fishing and sailing operations during this period, and refraining from swimming, using rubber boats, and light marine recreational activities. It emphasized continuous monitoring of children and preventing them from approaching the sea.

It also pointed out the necessity of avoiding proximity to rock barriers, piers, and beach edges during high waves, not attempting to rescue anyone in the sea but contacting rescuers immediately, and complying with instructions from port directorates and coast guards, exiting the water immediately upon request.

For its part, the ministry warned against risking proximity to the sea for photography during strong winds, avoiding river mouths and low-lying areas prone to water accumulation, and alerting tourists and beachgoers to the risk of slipping and refraining from approaching coastal rocks.

These measures come in compliance with warning signals and instructions issued by competent authorities, and by following official meteorological and marine bulletins to ensure citizen safety.

The sea disturbance will continue until next Sunday, necessitating extreme caution from all coastal visitors.
