Emergency Ministry Rescues 15 Civilians and Evacuates 375 Families Due to Floods
Syrian Civil Defense teams rescued 15 civilians and evacuated 375 families from Raqqa camps as heavy rains disabled seven bridges.

The Syrian Civil Defense teams under the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management carried out 165 field responses in several Syrian provinces following heavy rainfall and floods, up to 11:30 PM yesterday Wednesday. These interventions resulted in the rescue of 15 civilians and the evacuation of approximately 375 families from affected camps, in addition to seven bridges, ferries, and dirt roads being completely taken out of service.

Wide Interventions in Provinces

The Ministry stated via its Telegram channel that the responses covered the provinces of Aleppo, Raqqa, Deir Ezzor, Hama, Homs, and Latakia, with the support of engineering machinery and relevant authorities to protect lives and property. It noted that the number of incoming reports exceeded 350, being handled according to priority order, starting with life-threatening cases, then protecting property and securing roads and public facilities.

Injuries and Evacuation of Raqqa Camps

It added that its teams rescued 15 civilians after floods trapped their vehicles, while a death was recorded due to a traffic accident in western rural Raqqa according to initial data. It also intervened to save residents trapped by water after a dirt ferry collapsed in the Kasrat Suror area in rural Raqqa, where the number of affected families was estimated at over 100. As part of evacuating threatened areas, approximately 375 families left the Sahl al-Banat, Al-Younani, and Al-Miqas camps in rural Raqqa after they were damaged by rainwater.

Closure of Bridges and Drainage Works

Floods and heavy rains caused seven bridges, ferries, and dirt roads to be taken out of service. Interventions included securing the perimeter of Ratla Bridge in rural Raqqa and opening the road using engineering machinery, and addressing damages to Al-Kanatri and Al-Salmani bridges and a dirt ferry in the Kasrat Suror area. Meanwhile, three bridges built on wadis in Deir Ezzor and its rural areas were taken out of service, while teams carried out pumping and draining accumulated water from more than 150 homes and public facilities, including two hospitals, schools, and bakeries.

The Civil Defense teams continue their field responses, coinciding with raising the readiness level in the Syrian coast in anticipation of expected heavy rainfall.
