The Syrian Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management has warned that the Badia region, along with parts of the eastern, southern, and central areas, will be affected by a weather disturbance accompanied by heavy thunderous rainfall, with a possibility of hail and strong downdrafts that may stir up dust, starting from Sunday afternoon, November 1, until Monday dawn, November 2.
The ministry clarified via its Telegram channel on Friday that the impact of this weather event will primarily focus on the Damascus and Homs Badia, while some heavy rain showers are expected to extend to parts of Hama, southern Aleppo countryside, and parts of Raqqa and Al-Hasakah.
Public Safety Guidelines
The Early Warning and Preparedness Department within the ministry urged people not to approach riverbeds and depressions during heavy rainfall, and not to risk crossing any watercourse regardless of how low the water level appears, especially in mountainous areas. It also advised avoiding driving on roads flooded or covered with hail.
It stressed the necessity of avoiding photography or using mobile phones in open areas during strong thunderstorms, staying away from water bodies, elevated places, electricity towers, and solitary trees, as well as disconnecting solar power systems and sensitive electronic devices during thunderstorms.
Reduce Speed and Drive Carefully
The ministry also emphasized the importance of verifying the technical condition of vehicles, particularly the efficiency of brakes and windshield wipers, and reducing speed while driving with extreme caution during rainfall, especially at curves, slopes, and road intersections.
The ministry urged securing tents and objects that may fly away or fall during strong winds, staying away from cracked buildings and walls when winds intensify or downdrafts occur, and not leaving homes if dusty weather occurs, while reducing speed on roads due to reduced horizontal visibility.
Most Syrian areas have experienced weather instability since Tuesday afternoon, which began to dissipate on Friday, leading to road closures, thunderstorms, and flash floods.
