The Ministry of Emergency Affairs and Disaster Management renewed its warning that the Badia, as well as parts of the eastern, southern, and central regions, will be affected by a weather disturbance accompanied by heavy, thunderous rainfall, with the possibility of hail and strong downdrafts stirring up dust, potentially leading to dust storms, during the period from Sunday afternoon until Monday morning.
The Syrian Civil Defense announced via its Telegram channel on Saturday that the impact of this weather event will primarily focus on the Damascus and Homs Badia, while heavy showers are expected to extend to parts of Hama, Homs, southern Aleppo countryside, and parts of Raqqa and Al-Hasakah.
Safety Instructions
The Early Warning and Preparedness Department at the Ministry of Emergency Affairs and Disaster Management urged adherence to the following guidelines, which include avoiding proximity to riverbeds and depressions during heavy rainfall, and not risking crossing any watercourse regardless of how low the water level appears, especially in mountainous areas.
It emphasized the necessity of avoiding driving on roads flooded or covered by hail, refraining from taking photos or using mobile phones in open areas during strong thunderstorms, and avoiding standing near water bodies, elevated places, electricity towers, and isolated trees.
Preventive Measures
The Ministry added the importance of disconnecting solar power systems and sensitive electronic devices during strong thunderstorms, and verifying the technical condition of vehicles, particularly brake efficiency and windshield wipers, while reducing speed and driving with extreme caution during rainfall.
It stressed securing tents and objects that may be blown away or fall during strong winds, staying away from cracked buildings and walls when winds intensify or downdrafts occur, and not leaving homes if dusty weather occurs, while reducing speed on roads due to reduced horizontal visibility.
Most Syrian regions have experienced a weather disturbance accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms since last Tuesday until today, Saturday, leading to the formation of flash floods and landslides, and the cutting of many roads, especially in the northern and eastern regions.
