Emergency Ministry Warns of Weather Disturbance and Heavy Rainfall Next Thursday
The Emergency Ministry warns of severe weather and heavy rain from Thursday evening until Saturday.

The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management has warned of a weather disturbance affecting several Syrian governorates from Thursday evening until the evening of Saturday, November 7. The Ministry clarified via its Telegram channel on Tuesday that the disturbance will be accompanied by heavy, thunderous rainfall and increased surface wind speeds.

In the same context, coastal areas will be affected by heavy, thunderous rainfall extending to Idlib, Aleppo, Hama, and Homs, with conditions ranging from moderate to heavy and occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms. The Al-Hasakah governorate, particularly its northern and eastern parts, as well as northern Raqqa areas, will also be affected during the same period.

For its part, the Ministry indicated that rainfall will reach western Damascus countryside, Quneitra, parts of Daraa, and As-Suwayda by Friday afternoon, with moderate to heavy intensity and occasional heavy downpours. It pointed to water accumulation in low-lying areas and the flow of wadis and flash floods, especially in the coastal region, northwestern areas, and western parts of Homs and Hama countryside.

The Early Warning and Preparedness Department at the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management called for adherence to safety guidelines, including staying away from wadi courses and low-lying areas during heavy rainfall, and avoiding driving on flooded roads. It also emphasized disconnecting solar power systems and sensitive electronic devices during strong thunderstorms, and securing tents and objects that may be blown away or fall during strong winds.

The Ministry added the necessity of reducing speed and driving with extreme caution during rainfall, especially at curves, slopes, and road intersections, and ensuring the technical condition of vehicles, particularly brake efficiency and windshield wipers. It also advised staying away from cracked buildings and walls when winds intensify or downdrafts occur, and avoiding standing near water bodies, elevated places, and electricity towers.

The mentioned weather disturbance will continue until Saturday evening, requiring full vigilance from citizens and relevant authorities in affected areas. These warnings come as part of the Ministry’s preparations to tackle difficult weather conditions that may pose risks to lives and property.

The guidelines also include avoiding photography or using mobile phones in open areas during strong thunderstorms, and not risking crossing any watercourse regardless of how low the water level appears, especially in mountainous areas.

The Ministry of Emergency stresses the importance of following these guidelines to ensure citizen safety and minimize potential damage caused by the expected weather disturbance.
