The Ministry of Emergency Affairs and Disaster Management has warned of a period of rough seas along the coasts of Latakia and Tartus governorates, from noon on Thursday, October 29, until Saturday morning, October 31.
The Ministry clarified via its Telegram channel on Monday that sea waves are expected to become turbulent, peaking from Thursday afternoon to Friday evening, with wave heights exceeding 1 meter and reaching up to 1.5 meters.
Marine Weather Conditions
The Ministry noted that the rough seas will be accompanied by wind speeds ranging between 20 and 30 km/h, unstable weather conditions, and the possibility of sea tornadoes, necessitating strict preventive measures.
Safety Instructions
The Early Warning and Preparedness Department of the Ministry of Emergency Affairs and Disaster Management called for halting fishing and sailing operations during the rough period, and abstaining from swimming, using rubber boats, and light marine recreational activities.
Precautionary Measures
It also urged continuous monitoring of children, preventing them from approaching the sea, avoiding rocky barriers, piers, and beach edges, and adhering to instructions from port directorates and coast guards while following official bulletins.
The Ministry emphasized the necessity of not attempting to rescue anyone in the sea and contacting rescuers immediately, avoiding river mouths and low-lying areas prone to water accumulation, and refraining from approaching the sea for photography during strong winds.
