Energy Ministry: Dispatch of 250 diesel tankers to Aleppo and Idlib to address the crisis
The Energy Ministry announced the dispatch of 250 diesel tankers from Baniyas to Aleppo and Idlib to address the shortage caused by pipeline violations.

Abdul Hamid Salat, the media director at the Ministry of Energy, announced that the Syrian Petroleum Company is currently loading and dispatching 250 diesel tankers from Baniyas to the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib, as part of urgent measures to address the diesel crisis, while continuing supply and distribution operations to other provinces.

Salat clarified in a statement to SANA on Sunday that diesel is available in the Syrian Petroleum Company’s warehouses, with three tankers anchored at sea and ready for unloading, in addition to other contracted tankers that will arrive sequentially, thereby enhancing the continuity of supplies.

Reasons for the Crisis

Salat explained that the current diesel crisis stems from violations targeting the oil derivatives transport lines between Baniyas and Homs, which led to the cessation of material arrival at Homs warehouses, increased pressure on loading gantries in Baniyas, and delays in fulfilling orders over the past days.

Efforts to Enhance Supply Flow

Salat noted that after repairing the targeted line, work is currently underway to repressurize it and pump the material through it, paving the way for its arrival at Homs warehouses and resuming loading operations from there as soon as the necessary quantities are available, thereby helping to alleviate pressure on Baniyas and enhance supply flow.

Salat emphasized that these measures are part of continuous efforts to address bottlenecks in transport and loading operations, and are expected to contribute, along with continued supplies in the coming days, to gradually alleviating the crisis and improving material availability in markets.

The provinces of Aleppo and Idlib have experienced a shortage of diesel at fuel stations in recent days, affecting vital sectors including commercial shipping, bread ovens, transportation, olive oil presses, and drinking water transport services, coinciding with seasonal demand for the material as autumn enters and winter approaches.
