Confrontations between Russia and Ukraine continued on multiple fronts, with escalating drone attacks and exchanges of strikes against military targets and infrastructure, resulting in casualties and injuries, while new political indicators emerged concerning the course of the war and the possibility of resuming negotiations between the two sides.
Ukrainian authorities announced in a statement reported by Ukrinform on Friday that two 15-year-old girls were killed and 23 people injured in a drone attack targeting the center of Chernihiv city in northern Ukraine last night. Local officials stated that the attack damaged shops and caused several vehicles to catch fire, while emergency teams continued to assess the extent of the losses.
For its part, the Ukrainian General Staff announced the execution of attacks targeting Russian military facilities in the Bryansk region, including sites for storing drones, fuel warehouses, radar stations, and unmanned aircraft control points, affirming that these operations aim to limit Moscow's offensive capabilities. In the same context, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Friday in a statement reported by Sputnik that air defense systems shot down more than a thousand Ukrainian drones in one day over several Russian regions, noting the continuation of operations to counter Ukrainian aerial attacks.
Western media reports added that Kyiv temporarily halted its attacks on Russian oil refineries, a step linked to American pressure and efforts to prevent further escalation in the energy sector. The Russian-Ukrainian war, ongoing since February 2022, has seen continuous escalation in the use of drones and long-range attacks against infrastructure and military targets on both sides.
Sources indicated that the failure of diplomatic efforts has made aerial strikes and war of attrition the main features of the conflict, alongside international attempts to keep negotiation channels open and limit the spread of the confrontation.
