Expert: 4 Potential Scenarios for Forming the Israeli Government
An Israeli expert reveals four potential scenarios for forming the next government, including ordinary, minority, national unity, or caretaker.

Israeli political affairs expert Wadi Abu Nasar revealed four potential scenarios for forming the next Israeli government, noting that public opinion polls indicate that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot cannot reach the threshold of 61 seats required to form an ordinary government.

In the same context, Abu Nasar pointed out that the first scenario involves Netanyahu or Eisenkot forming an ordinary government through a coalition with winning parties, which is difficult to achieve given the lack of a clear majority, despite Eisenkot's attempts to woo deputies from the Haredim. For his part, the expert clarified that the second scenario involves Eisenkot forming a minority government that relies on Arab votes in the Knesset without their entry into the government coalition.

Abu Nasar added that the third scenario is the formation of a national unity government including Netanyahu, Eisenkot, and other parties, excluding the two extreme right-wing parties, an option supported by Israeli President Isaac Herzog and US President Donald Trump. He pointed out that the main problem lies in the opposition's refusal to sit in a government led by Netanyahu, which opens the door to discussions about granting Netanyahu amnesty in exchange for withdrawing from political life.

The expert concluded that the fourth scenario involves the current government remaining in a caretaker capacity until new elections are held in several months, an option favored by Netanyahu and one he works towards in case of failure to form a government. Israeli Knesset elections are held every four years, and the parliament consists of 120 seats, where citizens directly elect their representatives by voting for a list of candidates.
