Experts discuss challenges of cement industry in Damascus
Experts and specialists discuss ways to develop the cement industry and reconstruction during Damascus 2026.

Experts and specialists discussed ways to advance and develop the cement industry during the "Cement Industry and Concrete Aggregates in Syria 2026" conference and exhibition, which launched yesterday Thursday at the Damascus Fairgrounds, amid growing reconstruction needs and challenges facing the sector.

Civil engineer Fadia Shashman emphasized that the industry is undergoing a critical phase, pointing out that energy carrier challenges pose an obstacle to production, contributing to a widening gap between local production, which ranges between three and four million tons, and annual demand estimated at around eight million tons.

For his part, geologist Omar Kharita clarified that Syria possesses diverse geological resources of raw materials in several governorates, stressing the importance of benefiting from global companies in the fields of automation and transfer of modern technology to raise production capacity and improve operational efficiency.

Expert Abdul Rahman Al-Amri pointed to the necessity of developing Syrian standards to align with international standards, with a focus on green cement production and energy-efficient production technologies, while around 50 companies from nine countries participated in the events organized by "Sim Tec" Group in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Industry.
