Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy affirmed on Monday that the Palestinian issue represents a true test of the international system's credibility, amid the continued double standards and Israel's ongoing violations of international law rules.
Fahmy, in an open dialogue during the third session of the Cairo Forum on the most prominent challenges facing the Arab region and the role of joint Arab action, stressed the necessity of ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state.
Preserving Arab Unity
He also emphasized the importance of preserving the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Arab states, and supporting their national institutions as a fundamental pillar for achieving security and stability, and establishing balanced relations with neighboring countries based on respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
He pointed out that dealing with the crises affecting the region requires moving beyond their direct manifestations to address their root causes, primarily the weakness of institutions and the accumulation of political, economic, and social challenges.
Proactive Approaches
He added that there is importance in shifting from managing the repercussions of crises to adopting proactive approaches that prevent their recurrence, stressing that the integration of Arab positions and enhancing joint action represent a fundamental entry point to increase the ability of Arab states to influence regional and international developments.
In conclusion, Fahmy expressed his hope that the Cairo Forum would contribute to crystallizing practical visions and proposals that support decision-making and help turn ideas into actionable steps, expressing his desire for active participation in shaping events.
