Farasin Shahin: Peace requires ending Israeli occupation
Palestinian Foreign Minister stresses in Baku that peace is only achievable by ending the occupation and halting the war on Gaza.

Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Farasin Shahin affirmed that peace cannot be achieved except through adherence to international law and the end of the Israeli occupation, emphasizing the necessity of taking practical steps to halt the war on the Gaza Strip and achieve a just and permanent peace in the region.

Shahin stated in a Palestinian address at the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), held today Thursday in the Azerbaijani capital Baku, that the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip are suffering due to the war, widespread destruction, and shortage of humanitarian aid.

Escalation of Settlements and Displacement

She pointed to the escalation of settler attacks in the West Bank and the continued expansion of settlements, particularly the "E1" project, which threatens to divide Palestinian lands and undermine the possibility of establishing an independent, geographically contiguous Palestinian state. The Palestinian News Agency (Wafa) reported that Shahin affirmed the Palestinian people's attachment to their land and their rejection of displacement, recalling what Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stated in his speech to the UN General Assembly last September regarding the rejection of attempts to uproot Palestinians from their land.

Calls to Halt Colonial Projects

She called for the implementation of relevant United Nations and Security Council resolutions, and for taking serious steps to halt colonial projects and annexation plans, thereby ensuring the protection of Palestinian national rights and the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and viable Palestinian state, in accordance with international law and resolutions of international legitimacy. Shahin urged member states of the CICA conference to translate its outcomes into practical steps that contribute to protecting the Palestinian people, enhancing their resilience, and countering displacement plans.

International Coordination for Peace

She called for ensuring the urgent and unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. In conclusion of her speech, she expressed the State of Palestine's appreciation for the positions of Asian countries supporting Palestinian rights, foremost among them the right to freedom, independence, and self-determination, emphasizing the importance of continuing international coordination and cooperation to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the region.

The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is a regional framework aimed at enhancing dialogue, cooperation, and confidence-building among member states, and coordinating efforts on regional and international issues.
