FBI accuses North Korea of stealing $6.3 billion from Binance
The US FBI accuses North Korea of stealing $6.3 billion from Binance via a cyber hacking group.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) accused North Korea on Saturday evening of being behind the theft of $6.3 billion in crypto assets from the "Binance" platform following a cyber attack that occurred on the 29th of last month.

The bureau clarified in a statement that investigators identified the responsible party as the "Trader Treason" group, noting that the hackers are converting the funds into "Ethereum" currency with a view to laundering them through decentralized finance services.

For his part, observers in the cryptocurrency sector confirmed that the attack may exceed in scale the theft of $1.5 billion from the "Bybit" platform in February 2025, which was attributed to North Korea at the time.

The platform indicated that it froze $3 billion in affected assets, while the news led to a drop in "Bitcoin" prices by more than three percent.
