Finance Minister Announces Comprehensive Plan to Address Tax Arrears
Launch of a systematic plan to close accumulated tax files and enhance trust between the administration and taxpayers.

Finance Minister Muhammad Yassar Burhani announced that the Ministry and the General Authority for Taxes and Fees have launched the "Comprehensive Treatment and Systematic Closure Plan for Accumulated Tax Files," driven by the importance of establishing a fundamental solution to address the tax accumulation of past years.

Minister Burhani clarified in a post on his Facebook page today, Monday, that the plan aims to achieve a number of strategic results, most notably the fundamental treatment of tax arrears by accelerating the completion of accumulated files according to a strict timeline and measurable performance indicators, and the systematic closure of pending files, including the final settlement of past periods.

Minister Burhani pointed out that the plan also aims to unify audit mechanisms and standards by standardizing treatment methods and moving away from unregulated personal estimates, thereby enhancing justice and integrity and limiting opportunities for corruption, as well as clearing the tax legacy of the past. Old files will be closed according to transparent procedures that reduce the likelihood of delays or procrastination in completing files.

The plan's objectives also include establishing a clean foundation for the future by preparing a suitable regulatory environment for applying new tax legislation, so that work begins on the basis of updated files free from previous entanglements and accumulations. Additionally, it aims to enhance institutional trust, as the plan will strengthen stronger trust bridges between the tax administration and taxpayers through the transparent completion of files.

Minister Burhani explained that the necessary decisions to implement the plan were issued today, which will undoubtedly provide an opportunity for taxpayers to settle their tax files easily, facilitating the transition to the new, simplified tax system. He emphasized the Ministry's commitment to achieving a real change in the relationship with the business sector and taxpayers, and building trust bridges with citizens and investors.

The Board of Directors of the General Authority for Taxes and Fees, chaired by the Finance Minister, discussed a number of key axes aimed at improving the efficiency of tax work on October 28 last year, most notably addressing old accumulated tax files and an implementation plan to be announced later.
