Finance Minister Discusses with MIGA Activation of Risk Guarantees for Investors in Syria
Finance Minister discusses with MIGA accelerating risk guarantee services for investors in Syria during Bangkok meetings.

Finance Minister Muhammad Yasser Burhani, in Bangkok, held talks with the World Bank Vice President and Director General of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), Junaid Kamal Ahmad, on ways to accelerate the agency's provision of risk guarantee services to investors in Syria. The meeting was attended by Yusuf al-Faris from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank held in the Thai capital.

Minister Burhani emphasized during his meeting with Ahmad the necessity for the agency to swiftly complete the requirements for work in Syria and begin providing investment risk guarantee services for infrastructure projects and other development projects. This comes amid interest from several international entities in investing in Syria and the agency's pivotal role in facilitating the implementation of these vital projects.

The two sides discussed the importance of establishing a fund to support reconstruction in Syria, as it represents a means to enhance investment conditions and pave the way for the agency to expand its presence in Syria. For its part, the agency affirmed that Syria represents an important investment and strategic opportunity for the region and will commence studies and preparations to provide guarantee services to investors wishing to work in Syria.

It is worth noting that investment institutions consistently turn to investment risk guarantee agencies to provide insurance against risks, thereby encouraging hesitant investors. The Finance Minister had previously discussed with the agency's delegation on October 5 ways to provide investment risk guarantees in Syria, a step aimed at enhancing confidence in the business environment and attracting capital.
