Finance Ministry and UNIDO Discuss Mobilizing Funding for Industrial Recovery Program
Syrian Finance Minister and UNIDO delegation discuss industrial recovery funding and cooperation.

Finance Minister Mohammed Yasser Barneeh held talks yesterday with a delegation from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) on ways to enhance cooperation, align the proposed industrial recovery program with national priorities, and mobilize the necessary funding to implement its activities in Syria.

The Ministry of Finance announced via its Telegram channel on Wednesday that the discussions took place at the ministry’s headquarters and covered the program’s components, which included technical support and capacity-building initiatives, technical interventions aimed at developing the industrial sector, adopting modern technologies, enhancing export capabilities, considering environmental priorities, and preparing industrial recovery plans and strategies.

Developing Industrial Zones and Encouraging Export-Oriented Industries

The Finance Minister spoke about the ministry’s role in helping to mobilize the necessary financial resources, in coordination with the Ministry of Industry. He also presented an overview of the new tax system and incentives aimed at developing industrial zones and encouraging export-oriented industries, as well as government facilitations designed to help damaged and destroyed industrial establishments regain their operations.

Both sides agreed to enhance coordination and proposed forming a working group comprising UNIDO, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, and the Ministry of Finance, to follow up on securing the necessary financial requirements for industrial recovery programs.

It is worth noting that UNIDO has implemented activities in Syria to support industrial sectors, including the food industry. On September 16, 2025, it launched a specialized workshop titled "Enhancing Market Access and Marketing Readiness."
