Floods disrupt Deir Ezzor communications, technical teams mobilized to repair cables
Torrential floods in Deir Ezzor and Raqqa severed key communication cables linking provinces, prompting technical teams to repair the damage.

Torrential floods that struck Deir Ezzor province yesterday, Thursday, caused serious damage to the communications network, resulting in the complete outage of main optical cables connecting the province with Homs and Aleppo. In the same context, technical workshops continued their intense efforts to repair the faults and restore communications to normalcy amid difficult conditions.

For his part, Ans Al-Yassin, director of the Deir Ezzor Communications Branch, clarified that the first fault targeted the Homs-Deir Ezzor cable due to the impact of floods, which necessitated mobilizing technical teams to handle the situation. He added that another break was recorded later in the Aleppo-Deir Ezzor cable in the Al-Kabr area, leading to the division of teams into two workshops; the first headed towards the Haribisha area, while the second went to Al-Kabr.

Al-Yassin noted that the workshop directed to Al-Kabr managed to repair two breaks in the optical cable and restore service to the area, while torrential floods prevented the Haribisha workshop from reaching the fault site to carry out the required maintenance work. In the same context, a new fault occurred on the Deir Ezzor-Haleh cable, after it was severed in the Al-Mansoura area between Al-Tabqa and Raqqa, necessitating coordination with maintenance workshops in Raqqa and Aleppo.

The director of the Communications Branch added that the inability to work on repairing the new fault yesterday was due to floods, explaining that workshops headed to the fault site today and began repair works simultaneously as teams moved towards the Haribisha area after the road was opened to assess the damage. Meanwhile, Raqqa workshops continued their work on reconnecting the Aleppo-Deir Ezzor cable, amid a comprehensive mobilization to address faults and restore suspended services.
