Floods in Al-Hasakah Boost Water Reserves of Al-Hasakah South Dam
Heavy rains in Al-Hasakah raised river levels and increased water inflows to the dam, while five deaths were reported in other provinces.

Heavy rains witnessed in Al-Hasakah governorate over the past 24 hours caused the Khabur River and its tributaries to flow, leading to flash floods and the inundation of some wadis in the western and southwestern countryside of the governorate.

The Director of Water Resources in Al-Hasakah, Engineer Yahiya Othman, clarified that the rainfall contributed to the flow of the Khabur River, where the flow rate reached 10 cubic meters per second. Meanwhile, the flow rate of the Zarkan River in the countryside of the Ras al-Ayn area reached 10 cubic meters per second, and the Jughjug River in Al-Hasakah city reached 3 cubic meters per second.

Othman pointed out the importance of rainfall in enhancing groundwater recharge and increasing water inflows to rivers and dams, noting that the amount of water inflow to Al-Hasakah South Dam reached approximately 246,000 cubic meters today, with expectations of an increase in the coming days.

He noted that the reservoir's lake storage reached 321 million and 370 thousand cubic meters, while the Emergency Directorate and Disaster Management Administration in Al-Hasakah began implementing proactive measures, including opening drainage channels in anticipation of rising levels of the Khabur River.

For his part, the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management announced the death of five people, including four children, and the disappearance of five others in the countryside of Raqqa, Deir Ezzor, and Aleppo, due to flash floods and heavy rains witnessed in several governorates, indicating that search operations for the missing are ongoing.

The governorates of Raqqa, Al-Hasakah, and Deir Ezzor, in addition to areas in eastern Homs, Hama, and Aleppo, witnessed thunderous rainfall accompanied by hail and strong downdraft winds, which led to floods, flash floods, the flow of wadis, and the closure of several roads.
