Foreign Ministry: Al-Sharaa’s Visit to Saudi Arabia a Milestone in Strengthening Historical Ties
The Foreign Ministry confirms that President Al-Sharaa’s visit to Saudi Arabia concluded with a military cooperation agreement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed that President Ahmed Al-Sharaa’s visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represented a prominent milestone in strengthening entrenched historical ties and developing bilateral relations, culminating in the signing of a military cooperation agreement between the ministries of defense and memoranda of understanding covering multiple vital sectors.

Visit Details and Meetings

A statement issued by the ministry today, Wednesday, via its Telegram channel, stated that President Al-Sharaa undertook the visit in response to a gracious invitation from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, on November 4, 2026, based on the entrenched fraternal bonds uniting the two brotherly countries.

President Al-Sharaa met with the Crown Prince in an atmosphere dominated by fraternity, where His Highness conveyed the greetings of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his wishes for His Excellency, the Arab Republic of Syria, and its people, while His Excellency the President entrusted His Highness the Crown Prince with his sincerest wishes for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Kingdom, and its brotherly people for growth and prosperity.

Negotiations and Regional Issues

The statement indicated that the two sides held a negotiation session during which they reviewed ways to develop close relations in all fields, and exchanged views on all current regional and international situations, including the serious repercussions of any military escalation on regional and international security and stability, the safety of international navigation, the sustainability of energy supplies, and the stability of the global economy.

The statement clarified that both sides praised the significant convergence in visions and positions regarding regional and international issues of common interest, emphasizing the importance of enhancing efforts aimed at de-escalation and crisis containment, prioritizing the language of dialogue and diplomacy to settle disputes by peaceful means, and the immediate cessation of all actions threatening the security of maritime navigation and waterways in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Strait of Hormuz.

Agreements and Accompanying Delegation

The ministry affirmed that during the visit, a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed, foremost among them being the cooperation agreement between the ministries of defense of the Arab Republic of Syria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in addition to memoranda of understanding in the fields of industry, agriculture, environmental protection, infrastructure and housing projects, and financial services.

President Al-Sharaa had previously arrived earlier today in the Saudi capital Riyadh at the head of a high-level delegation, including Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan Al-Shaybani, Defense Major General Marhaf Abu Qasra, Finance Mohammed Yasser Barnea, Industry, Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Basil Abdul Hannan, and Head of the General Intelligence Agency Major General Abdul Qader Tahhan.

The Foreign Ministry concluded its statement by noting President Ahmed Al-Sharaa’s expression of his highest gratitude and appreciation to his brother, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for the warm reception and generosity of hospitality accorded to him and the accompanying delegation during the visit.
