The French human rights association Vigeo Liberté has appealed to the Administrative Court in Paris against the decision by the capital's security directorate to impose a partial nighttime curfew, coinciding with preparations by the Yellow Vest movement for new protests.
Details of the Court Decision
The association, which defends public freedoms, filed a request to annul the curfew imposed from 23:00 to 06:00, effective from Saturday until November 2. This security measure is limited to the Republic Square and Halles areas in the French capital.
Background of the Protests
The Yellow Vest movement is preparing to take to the streets again today, protesting against the high cost of living and rising fuel prices, following previous movements in France on October 17, 18, and 24. These protests caused damage to more than 2,500 stores, including 1,161 stores that suffered serious damage from looting and arson.
History of the Movement
Yellow Vest demonstrations began for the first time on November 17, 2018, protesting against fuel price increases and economic conditions, then evolved into protests against the social and economic policies of President Emmanuel Macron.
