Fucina wins Shanghai title after defeating Godar
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina claims his first Masters 1000 title in Shanghai.

Spanish player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, ranked 26th in the world, won the title of the Shanghai Masters 1000 tennis tournament after defeating his compatriot Rafael Godar in the final held on Sunday. Davidovich Fokina won the match 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, securing his first title in the most important Masters tournaments in his professional career.

Mixed performance in sets

Godar, aged 20, started the match strongly, clearly dominating the first set, but faced a strong reaction from Fokina in the second set. After Godar broke Fokina's serve to lead 3-2, the latter managed to break back immediately and hold his own service games, before winning the tiebreak after a hasty error by Godar made the score 5-5.

Details of the decisive set

In the third set, the players exchanged service breaks, and at 2-2, Fokina once again broke his younger opponent's serve and maintained his advantage to move forward toward victory. Fokina expressed his feelings, saying: "I don't know what to say. I don't know how I feel. It's just a great sense of relief," adding that this memory will stay with him for the rest of his life.

Implications for the world ranking

Meanwhile, Godar missed the opportunity to enter the top 10 in the world rankings for the first time, as well as the chance to overtake three competitors in the race to qualify for the ATP Finals scheduled to be held in Turin from November 15 to 22 next year. Godar will retain ninth place in the "qualification race," behind Russian Daniil Medvedev, American Frances Tiafoe, and Frenchman Arthur Fils.
