Residents of the village of Jumla and cities and towns in Daraa province buried, on Thursday, the body of a young man killed by Israeli occupation forces during their incursion into the village the previous night, amid escalating violations and incursions that have caused fear and anxiety among the population.
Khaled Al-Samouri, a resident of the village, stated that several Israeli military vehicles entered the village at 1:30 a.m. and began searching homes and questioning young men. This lasted for about two hours before gunfire was heard, injuring Maaz Salama Al-Ba’ir, a person with a disability.
For his part, Ahmad Al-Subhi noted that 12 occupation military vehicles infiltrated the village and deployed soldiers on rooftops before setting up a checkpoint on the road leading to the villages of Al-Shajara, Suwayn, Nafa’a, and Jumla. He pointed out that the forces fired at the young man as he passed nearby, despite his hearing impairment.
Al-Subhi highlighted the increased frequency of Israeli violations over the past ten days, amid constant fear, particularly of sudden incursions during early morning hours. He affirmed that residents remain steadfast on their land despite difficult conditions and the near-constant presence of drones.
The funeral ceremony was attended by Daraa District Director Muhammad Abu Dibbus and the Director of Internal Security for the Second Daraa District, Ahmad Al-Sakhni. The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs strongly condemned the Israeli occupation forces' crime of killing a young person with special needs.
The Ministry emphasized that targeting civilians constitutes a serious violation of international law and international humanitarian law, holding the occupation authorities fully responsible for this crime. It noted that continued incursions and attacks on Syrian citizens violate the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic.
The Ministry clarified that these violations threaten the security and stability of the region and hinder efforts toward recovery and reconstruction, firmly rejecting any measures that could undermine the safety and public security of the population.
