Casualty Toll
The Gaza Strip Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced on Wednesday that six Palestinian students were killed and others injured in Israeli attacks over the past two days. Two female students were shot by the Israeli army today morning at a school in Jabalia in the northern part of the Strip.
Injury Details
The ministry stated in a statement that Israeli military vehicles fired towards the "Muradiya" girls' school and its surroundings in Jabalia, resulting in the injury of students Suad Qandil Mansour Abd Rabbah and Amina Khaled Ali Khader. It clarified that Suad, a sixth-grade student, was shot in the thigh, requiring her transfer to the operating room, while Amina, a fourth-grade student, suffered abdominal wounds.
Warnings on Undermining Education
It added that the incident occurs within the context of what it described as "serious and continuous escalation" targeting Palestinian students and children, noting that the casualties and injuries reflect the magnitude of the risks they face even inside their schools. It warned that repeated attacks on schools and their students undermine the remaining foundations of the educational process in the Strip.
General Context of Study
These developments come about a month after the resumption of classes in Gaza on September 19, following the suspension of regular in-person education for nearly three years due to the Israeli genocide war, amidst widespread destruction of educational facilities. According to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Education, the new academic year targets approximately 541,000 students in Gaza, through nearly 700 in-person educational sites, alongside electronic education, despite the widespread destruction of schools.
