Palestinian girl Nesreen Skik, aged 12, has been selected among the top 8 digital content creators worldwide for 2026, after successfully documenting the suffering of displacement and hunger in the Gaza Strip via her mobile phone. The Digital Content Creators Awards announced on October 17 that she had qualified for the finals in the Children and Youth category, giving her a sense of pride for conveying the voices of Gaza's children to the world.
In the same context, Nesreen documents daily life under the Israeli war that began in October 2023, which has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians, including about 22,000 children, and injured over 175,000, causing widespread destruction affecting approximately 90 percent of civilian infrastructure. The girl states that displacement is not a move from one place to another, but an escape from death to death, pointing out the cruelty of the hunger experience that is difficult for a child to endure.
For her part, the girl's account on the "Instagram" platform has more than 1.4 million followers, where she shares children's stories and attempts at resilience despite daily challenges such as power outages and scarcity of services. The Skik family is forced to travel long distances to charge their phone, while accessing the internet requires purchasing SIM cards that may only allow her a few minutes of connectivity, yet she is determined to continue producing content.
Nesreen added that she dreams of becoming a well-known dentist worldwide and opening a clinic in her country to treat people. She affirmed that she will continue filming and conveying the voices of Gaza's children as much as possible, praising the support she received via email confirming her nomination for the finals.
