German officials threaten strict sanctions on those involved in the Frankfurt riots that left around 100 police officers injured.

German officials, on Sunday, threatened to impose strict sanctions on those involved in the riots and looting that took place in the city of Frankfurt, resulting in material damage to several stores and injuring around 100 police officers, while also praising the performance of security forces in containing the disturbances and preventing their spread.

The "Independent" newspaper quoted Hesse Interior Minister Roman Böseck, during a press conference, saying that masked rioters caused damage to approximately 17 stores and commercial establishments, five of which were looted, noting that the police deployed around 1,300 officers to deal with the events, with about 100 of them injured during the clashes.

Böseck added that the police arrested 54 people aged between 13 and 29, clarifying that most of the detainees hold German nationality, and that police information indicates the participation of large numbers of immigrants in the disturbances.

He pointed out that initial police estimates indicate the presence of between 1,000 and 1,500 people involved in the riots and violence, considering what the city witnessed as unacceptable to continue.

For his part, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said that authorities would work to identify those involved in the riots and looting and hold them accountable, emphasizing the necessity of imposing strict sanctions on the perpetrators of these acts.

Dobrindt accused far-left groups and individuals from immigrant circles of turning protests, which he described as originally peaceful, into acts of violence, without providing further details, noting that the police strategy based on widespread deployment and distributing officers across multiple sites proved effective in containing the events.

Frankfurt had witnessed violence on Saturday evening following large protests, during which tens of thousands marched in several German cities, demanding improvements to the education system and a reduction in the cost of living, in movements led by a group calling itself "Generation Z Takes Charge."
