Google enables YouTube viewing in cars and switches to audio mode while driving
Google updates the in-car app store to allow YouTube viewing when stopped and audio-only playback while moving.

Google announced an update for the "Google Play" app store embedded in cars, which includes improving the user interface and facilitating the discovery and installation of applications, along with enabling the viewing of "YouTube" clips when the car is stopped, and automatically switching to audio-only playback when driving begins.

According to the features announced via Google's official blog two days ago, the update aims to improve the experience for drivers and passengers, and expand entertainment and digital service options inside the car, especially during waiting periods or while charging electric vehicles.

The "Google Play" store for cars includes more than 700 applications, while the new interface provides a more organized design for displaying popular and newly added apps, along with lists and recommendations tailored to the car's status, whether stopped or moving, with support for different screen sizes.

The additions include the ability to watch "YouTube" clips when the car is stationary, as well as other entertainment apps and services such as "Starz," the "Firefox" browser, the "Ludo King" game, and the "JioHotstar" service. When the car moves, "YouTube" playback automatically switches to audio-only mode, allowing users to continue listening to audio content and podcasts without displaying video while driving.

Google's embedded services are available in more than 100 car models from 16 brands, allowing access to services such as "Google Maps" and the "Gemini" AI assistant directly via the dashboard screen.

The new design is scheduled to be rolled out to supported cars in the coming weeks, as part of the company's efforts to develop smart car systems and expand its digital and entertainment services, while adhering to traffic safety requirements.
