Gulf-European statement condemns Iranian attacks and affirms energy source diversification
Brussels legislative conference condemns Iranian attacks, calls for navigation protection and two-state solution in Palestine.

The second conference of the heads of legislative councils in the European Parliament and the Gulf Cooperation Council affirmed, on Friday, the importance of enhancing energy security and diversifying its sources to ensure economic stability and supply sustainability, condemning Iranian attacks on Gulf Cooperation Council countries, whether directly or through their proxies.

Enhancing Gulf-European Partnership

The Gulf Cooperation Council website stated that participants in the conference held in Brussels stressed in a final statement the importance of enhancing the Gulf-European partnership and developing joint solutions to address international disturbances, ensuring the reliability of energy supplies and diversifying their sources, and enhancing cooperation in economic and security fields.

Participants strongly condemned Iranian attacks using missiles and drones on Gulf Cooperation Council countries, expressing solidarity with Gulf states and their peoples, and affirming the right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, calling on Iran and its proxies to immediately and unconditionally cease attacks to prevent further escalation in the region.

Protecting Navigation in the Red Sea

Participants expressed concern over developments in the Red Sea, due to the threat they pose to vital sea routes connecting Europe and Asia, calling for enhanced coordination between the multinational maritime defense coalition led by Saudi Arabia and European Union operations within the framework of the Common Security and Defense Policy, to contribute to protecting navigation and energy supplies.

Situation in Palestinian Territories

Regarding the situation in the Palestinian territories, participants stressed the necessity of protecting civilians and respecting international law and international humanitarian law, and ensuring the safe, immediate, sustainable, and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians, emphasizing the importance of preventing a recurrence of escalation and supporting political and diplomatic efforts to achieve a just, comprehensive, and permanent peace based on the two-state solution, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.

The Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union had previously condemned in a joint statement last July the attacks carried out by Iran against commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz and against the sovereign territories of regional countries, affirming that these acts cannot be justified in any way and represent a serious violation of the region's security and stability.
