Syrian runner Hadi Abbas wins two silvers at the Arab Junior Championships.

Syrian runner Hadi Abbas achieved a new feat by winning two silver medals in the 100 and 200 meter races at the Arab Junior Athletics Championships recently held in Egypt. Abbas ranked second in the Arab classification of the fastest under-18 junior sprinters in the 100-meter race for 2026, recording a time of 10.76 seconds according to World Athletics data.

For his part, Abbas, who is 17 years old, explained that his start in athletics was in 2022 thanks to his father's encouragement, where he won first place in the local sprouts championship. He added that his coach began including him in competitions for older age groups, which helped him gain experience and get used to competing against older and more experienced players.

The Syrian runner pointed out that his participation in the Arab Championship served as motivation to continue training and improve his times in future participations. According to the Syrian Athletics Federation, Abbas enhanced the value of his achievement by ranking second in the Arab list of the fastest under-18 sprinters in the 100-meter race for 2026.

In the same context, Abbas participates alongside his teammate Jana Mahla in the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games hosted by Senegal from October 31 to November 13. Abbas will compete in the 400-meter race, while Mahla will participate in the 200-meter race, amid ambitions to deliver an honorable participation and raise the Syrian flag high.
