Hamas announced on Friday, on the second anniversary of the assassination of its former political bureau chief, Yahya Al-Sinwar, that he "launched a new phase of confrontation" with Israel, affirming that the repercussions of this confrontation are still ongoing in the region.
In the same context, the movement pointed out that Al-Sinwar "launched a new phase of open clash and confrontation with the occupation," noting that this phase "draws the outlines of a new scene written in the blood of its sons, for the benefit of its peoples striving for freedom and independence."
For his part, the Israeli army confirmed on October 17, 2024, that a force from the 828th Brigade killed three Hamas operatives during a clash in Rafah, before later confirming Al-Sinwar's identity through DNA tests.
The movement added that the scenes of Al-Sinwar's final moments, broadcast by the Israeli army, embodied "resistance until the last breath," considering his martyrdom a new fuel for Al-Asqa Flood.
Israel had previously considered Al-Sinwar the architect of the "Al-Asqa Flood" operation carried out by Palestinian factions on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the killing and capture of hundreds of Israelis.
Since October 2023, Israel has been committing genocide in the Gaza Strip with American support, resulting in more than 74,000 killed and over 174,000 injured, and widespread destruction affecting nearly 90 percent of civilian infrastructure.
