Hamilton welcomes return of Formula 1 to Rwanda in 2030
Lewis Hamilton expresses enthusiasm for Formula 1's return to Rwanda in 2030, fulfilling his dream of racing in Africa.

British Ferrari driver and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton welcomed the decision to return the Formula 1 World Championship to the African continent, specifically to Rwanda, starting from 2030. The 41-year-old driver, during a press conference on the sidelines of the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, confirmed that he is committed to staying in racing longer due to his long-standing dream of racing on the Dark Continent.

For his part, Italian Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli, aged 20, suggested registering Hamilton's participation in the Rwanda race as his first in Africa, to which the latter agreed, affirming his readiness to work to maintain his physical fitness. Hamilton pointed out that he has always called for the return of an African round to the Formula 1 calendar, noting that he will continue his career if he achieves good results next year.

Formula 1 management announced last week its return to Africa after signing a 10-year contract. The new track is scheduled to be built in the Bugesera area near the new airport, approximately 40 kilometers south of Kigali, the capital. It is worth noting that the last Formula 1 race on the continent was held in 1993 at the Kyalami circuit in South Africa.

In the same context, Frenchman Alain Prost won that 23rd edition of the South African Grand Prix, finishing ahead of Brazilian Ayrton Senna, while Hamilton was only 8 years old at the time.
