The United Nations Human Rights Council adopted two resolutions in which it renewed its condemnation of the Israeli occupation's violations of the rights of the people of the occupied Syrian Golan and called on it to stop them, comply with the relevant UN resolutions, and stop its repressive practices.
The Human Rights Council announced on Tuesday that the Council adopted draft resolution (L.8) on the situation of human rights in the occupied Syrian Golan during its sixty-first session, stressing the nullity of all annexation measures imposed by the occupation authorities and the need to protect the rights of the people of the Golan.
The Council also adopted draft resolution (L.36) on Israeli settlements in the occupied Syrian Golan and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, reaffirming the illegality of the settlements and its flagrant violation of international law, the need to stop colonial expansion, end the ongoing violations and hold those responsible for settler violence accountable, in compliance with international law and Security Council resolutions.
In the same context, the Council adopted draft resolution (L.37) on the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, within the framework of supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.
The Human Rights Council clarified that the adoption of draft resolutions gives them the official status as resolutions issued by it, in a renewed affirmation of the rejection of the violations to which the people of the occupied Syrian Golan are exposed.
Last Friday, Syria welcomed the unanimous adoption of the resolution by the Human Rights Council for the second year in a row, and expressed its appreciation for the systematic approach and cooperation shown by the countries of the core group sponsoring this resolution and their efforts in drafting it.
