Head of Yemen's Shura Council Discusses Latest Developments in Yemen with UN Envoy
Bin Daghr stresses Houthi attacks on civilian infrastructure threaten security and calls for international intervention.

Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr, Head of Yemen's Shura Council, held talks today, Monday, with UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg on the latest developments in Yemen and their repercussions on the country's and the region's security.

Bin Daghr stressed during the meeting, according to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), that the Houthi militia's targeting of civilian facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Aden and Rayan airports, and the continued siege of Taiz city, constitutes a serious threat to security and stability, and a violation of international laws and customs.

For his part, Bin Daghr called on the international community and the United Nations to assume their responsibilities, take action to stop Houthi militia attacks, protect civilian facilities and sea lanes, and adopt deterrent measures to compel them to cease escalation, violations, and comply with international legitimacy resolutions.

He pointed out that Yemen has called for an end to the siege imposed on Taiz city, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to it, and protecting civilians and civilian facilities, warning of the repercussions of threatening international navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab strait.

For his part, the UN envoy confirmed the continuation of United Nations efforts in cooperation with various parties to reach solutions that contribute to ending the crisis, alleviating humanitarian suffering, and realizing Yemenis' aspirations for security and stability.

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms documented on Sunday that the Houthi militia committed 53 crimes and violations against civilians and civilian property in Taiz governorate, in addition to launching approximately 417 projectiles on residential areas, during the past 48 hours, in an escalation that coincided with the continued siege and obstruction of population movement and the arrival of basic supplies.
