The Hebron Municipality in the southern occupied West Bank announced on Tuesday that the number of Palestinians forcibly displaced by the Israeli military from the Deir al-Baha and Al-Jalda areas has risen to 4,969 people since the start of the military operation in the city. According to a municipal statement reached by the Anadolu Agency, the total number of displaced families reached 780 families comprising these figures.
The municipality added that among the displaced were 336 infants, 441 elderly, 216 pregnant and nursing women, in addition to 44 people with disabilities, and 312 suffering from chronic illnesses. The municipality had announced yesterday that the military had displaced 491 families comprising 3,189 people, before the figures rose today on Tuesday amid escalating humanitarian repercussions.
The Israeli military continued its military operation in the Hebron governorate on Tuesday for the fifth day, amid raids on neighborhoods of the city and the arrival of military reinforcements. The operation began on Friday following an attack carried out by two Palestinians that resulted in the killing of two Israeli soldiers and injuring three others, before the military killed the attackers later.
The military imposed a closure on the city and surrounding villages, and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Saturday evening the forcing of approximately two thousand Palestinians to leave. Meanwhile, local sources denied the existence of Hamas infrastructure, and observers considered the operation retaliatory, targeting civilian homes.
