The Higher Education Council approved four decisions stipulating the merger of university institutions and branches within Syrian state universities, as part of completing the unification of the higher education system and enhancing its academic and administrative authority under the ministry's supervision.
For his part, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Marwan Al-Halabi confirmed that these decisions crown a path of discussions and coordination with the Turkish side and the Turkish Higher Education Council, which led to an official agreement signed in Gaziantep to address the file of institutions affiliated with Gaziantep University and return them to the Syrian system.
Al-Halabi pointed out that the decisions represent a transition to a new stage of institutional unity and unified national reference, making the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research the central regulatory authority, in line with the path of unifying state institutions and enhancing their presence in various regions.
The decisions adopted by the Council during its session held on October 18 included merging the branch of the University of Health Sciences, including the Faculty of Human Medicine and the Higher Institute of Health Services, in Al-Rai city into Aleppo University under Decision No. 68, and merging Rojava University into Al-Furat University under Decision No. 69.
The Council also approved merging the Gaziantep University branch in Aleppo Governorate into Aleppo University under Decision No. 70, and merging Kobani University into Aleppo University under Decision No. 71, with the colleges affiliated with each attached to the host university.
Minister Al-Halabi announced on October 21 that the ministry has begun executive steps to complete the file of merging the colleges and students affiliated with the former Gaziantep University and the University of Health Sciences in the North, within the Syrian higher education system.
