Higher Education Committee in People's Council Examines Student Affairs, Cases of Delegates and Dismissed Students
The committee discusses regulations governing students, delegates, and repeaters to simplify procedures and develop universities.

The Higher Education and Scientific Research Committee in the People's Council examined the legislations and decisions governing student affairs, including university competitions, transfers, and conversions, as well as cases of delegates, repeaters, and dismissed students, in addition to promotion rules and certificate equivalency, with the aim of simplifying procedures and accelerating their completion.

The committee chairman, Ahmed al-Afdal, explained to SANA today, Monday, that the committee discussed in its meeting held at the Council building in Damascus, the status of teaching staff members who have been absent from work due to their participation in the revolution, as well as the delegates file, the law regulating universities, alongside reviewing legislations and laws issued during the rule of the former regime and working to amend them to serve higher education.

Procedures to Facilitate Certificate Equivalency

Regarding certificate equivalency, al-Afdal stated that the return of Syrian students after the liberation of Syria contributed to an increase in equivalency requests, prompting the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to take measures to facilitate this process, including easing equivalency conditions, reducing required documents, and enabling online communication to verify the authenticity of certificates.

Al-Afdal pointed out the importance of providing the Certificate Equivalency Directorate at the Ministry of Higher Education with more staff and training them, which would help alleviate pressure and speed up the processing of applications. He also praised the ministry's decisions regarding student transfers and conversions between universities.

The Higher Education and Scientific Research Committee in the People's Council, which consists of 17 members, is concerned with studying draft laws and proposals related to higher education and scientific research, universities, and educational and research institutions, ensuring their academic independence and scientific freedom.
