Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Marwan Al-Halabi announced that the Higher Education Council, in its previous session, approved considering several courses in the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering as specialized professional and applied courses, and allowed vocational teachers and graduates of intermediate institutes to participate in teaching and practical supervision under the supervision of the course professor.
The minister added in a statement to SANA today, Sunday, that the council also approved a mechanism allowing students holding a secondary school certificate in a non-scientific branch or university degrees from other countries to take specialized exams in mathematics, physics, and science to complete admission requirements and overcome the compatibility condition, thereby ensuring the continuity of their academic studies and equivalence of their certificates, in coordination with the Ministry of Education.
The council also approved adopting the exchange rate issued by the Central Bank of Syria on the date of the competition announcement (2026/10/1), estimated at 122.50 Syrian pounds for selling and 121.50 Syrian pounds for buying, as a basis for calculating and settling fees and financial obligations related to the competition.
Minister Al-Halabi had announced via his official Facebook page on Saturday that the Higher Education Council decided to consider the colleges of Al-Hayat University for Medical Sciences, in nursing, anesthesia, physical therapy, and midwifery specializations, equivalent to the departments of health sciences colleges with the same specializations in Syrian public universities, thereby enhancing the academic reference of these specializations and organizing their educational pathways.
He noted that the council approved establishing two master's degrees in financial and banking sciences in the Department of Financial and Banking Sciences at the Faculty of Economics, and clinical psychology in the Department of Psychological Counseling at the Faculty of Education at Al-Furat University, thereby providing new horizons for students to continue their postgraduate studies and scientific specialization.
The Higher Education Council held its previous session, which was the first for the academic year 2026-2027, on October 18, presided over by Minister Al-Halabi.
