Higher Education Ministry Grants Exceptional Year to Exhausted Private University Students
The Ministry of Higher Education issues instructions to grant an additional academic year to exhausted private university students starting from 2010-2011.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research issued, on Wednesday, the executive instructions regarding the provisions of Decree No. 180 of 2026, which regulate granting an additional academic year to exhausted students in Syrian private universities. These instructions aim to provide an exceptional opportunity for students who have exhausted their chances to take the permitted exam, starting from the 2010-2011 academic year up to the 2025-2026 academic year, whether they benefited from a previous exceptional session or not.

In the same context, the instructions stipulated granting an additional academic year in the 2026-2027 academic year, including the first and second semesters as well as the summer semester, for students in the credit hour system in the first stage of university education. This category includes students exhausted due to the number of academic years, those exhausted of academic warning chances, or due to a low cumulative grade point average.

For his part, the decision included students in the semester or annual system by granting them an additional academic year in the same year, with the requirement to retake annual assignments, practical exams, and research circles before proceeding to theoretical courses. Graduate students, including qualification, specialization, and master's studies, are also granted an additional academic year in the 2026-2027 academic year, with the obligation to retake the mentioned assignments before proceeding to theoretical courses.

The decision added that master's students who completed their course years and exhausted the specified registration period for the thesis stage are granted a calendar year to register for research during the 2026-2027 year. Students with master's and doctoral degrees who were expelled from the degree, starting from September 15, 2010, up to October 10, 2026, are granted a calendar year, provided that a university council decision on registration is issued during the 2026-2027 academic year.

It was indicated that students whose registration was deleted from the university can benefit from the decision by submitting a request to the private university, with the commitment not to return to government, private, open, or virtual education, and not to benefit from course equivalency studied in the other education. The student must pay fees and installments according to the fees specified for new students in the 2025-2026 academic year, and proceed to registration within the deadlines specified by their university.
