Homs organizes environmental trip to raise awareness and integrate people with disabilities
Homs Environment Directorate organizes interactive nursery trip for disabled children and tourism students for 2026 National Environment Day.

The Homs Environment Directorate, in cooperation with the Directorates of Social Affairs and Labor, Tourism, and Parks, organized an interactive environmental trip to the Parks Directorate nursery today, Tuesday, with the participation of children from centers for people with disabilities and students from the Tourism Institute, aiming to enhance environmental awareness and encourage the integration of people with disabilities in community activities.

The trip came as part of the 2026 National Environment Day events, under the slogan "We restore our environment... we continue the story," and included a tour of the nursery sections to learn about plant types and their growth needs, along with participating in planting seedlings and saplings and their role in improving the city's aesthetics and purifying the environment.

For his part, Iyad Jaafar, Director of Social Affairs and Labor in Homs, clarified that the participation of children from centers and institutes for people with disabilities aims to enhance their integration into society and provide them with the opportunity to interact with various segments through practical activities combining agriculture and environmental awareness.

Jaafar emphasized the importance of raising awareness among children and the community about the importance of agriculture and environmental preservation, pointing to the role of participating associations, in coordination with the Environment and Parks Directorates, in the success of the event.

For her part, Engineer Lara Ghaoui from the Climate Change and Environmental Media Department at the Environment Directorate, explained that the event aims to enhance communication and integration between children with disabilities and Tourism Institute students through interactive activities in nature.

She noted that field activities contribute to solidifying the concept of shared responsibility towards the environment and turning awareness of the importance of preserving it into practical practices involving all members of society.

For her part, Engineer Wala Khader from the Parks Directorate in the Homs Municipality Council, mentioned that the choice of the Directorate's nursery located on the Homs-Damascus road is due to it being the main site for producing saplings and seedlings in the governorate, noting that the trip allowed participants to learn about the nursery sections, plant types, and cultivation methods.

Khader added that the Directorate continues maintenance work in parks, including planting, watering, weeding, and cleaning, alongside working to rehabilitate several of them in cooperation with supporting entities, which contributes to maintaining the sustainability of green spaces.

The celebration of National Environment Day, which falls on November 1 every year, aims to enhance community awareness and responsibility towards protecting natural resources, reducing pollution, and increasing green spaces, through the concerted efforts of institutions, individuals, and the local community to achieve a clean and sustainable environment.
