Homs University Trains Engineering Students on Geophysical Signal Processing
Homs University launches a training program for engineering and geology students to develop geophysical data processing skills.

The Skills and Career Guidance Center at Homs University launched on Sunday a training program titled "Signal Processing and Its Geophysical Applications," targeting fourth- and fifth-year petroleum engineering students, postgraduate students in the field, and geology department students at the Faculty of Science. The program aims to develop students' practical skills and introduce them to the technologies used in processing geophysical data and their applications in oil and gas exploration.

The director of the Skills and Career Guidance Center at the university, Dr. Engineer Mustafa Al-Masri, stated in an interview with the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the program is implemented in coordination with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), aiming to benefit from specialized expertise and keep students updated on scientific and technical developments in the field of geophysics. He noted that the program seeks to hone students' skills and prepare them for the job market by linking theoretical knowledge with practical applications.

For his part, the program trainer, Engineer Bassam Al-Obeid, explained that the training focuses on equipping students with basic skills and practical applications for processing geophysical data using personal computers and specialized software. Al-Obeid pointed out that the program lasts for two weeks and covers the fundamentals of signal processing and various stages of work, leading to practical details and examples, enabling students to benefit from the acquired skills in their university studies and professional lives after graduation.

Fifth-year petroleum engineering student Firas Al-Dar'an highlighted the importance of the training in learning to process and analyze data from devices using computer programs, explaining that these skills are useful in exploration work and dealing with data collected by technical teams in oil fields. Al-Dar'an emphasized that keeping pace with technological developments enhances students' readiness for the next stage and helps them apply their knowledge in exploration and production activities, especially given the need for qualified personnel capable of using modern technologies.

The program comes within the efforts of Homs University to enhance the practical aspect of university education and develop students' competencies in line with labor market requirements and the needs of the oil, gas, and geological sciences sectors.
