Houthi militia kills 53 Yemeni recruits in missile attack in Shabwa
53 recruits killed and over 200 injured in Houthi missile strike on training center in Ataq, Shabwa.

The Shabwa governorate in Yemen announced the death of 53 internal security recruits and the injury of more than 200 others, following a missile attack launched by the Houthi militia on Monday on a center for members of security and police agencies in the governorate.

Yemeni News Agency (Saba) quoted local authorities in a statement saying that the attack on the center was carried out by missiles while new recruits in the internal security were undergoing security training and qualification programs at the center located on the outskirts of Ataq city.

In the same context, the governorate held the Iran-backed Houthi militia fully responsible for the attack and the human losses it caused, emphasizing that "targeting recruits during their security training and qualification represents a highly dangerous military escalation, a blatant assault on the security and stability of the governorate, and a violation that warrants taking urgent and effective measures to protect military and security facilities and their members."

For his part, Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi, during a phone call with Shabwa Governor Awad bin Lwiz, requested providing necessary medical care to the wounded and taking what is necessary to respond firmly to the sources of this terrorist attack.

He affirmed that targeting the recruits reflects the Houthi militias' approach of resorting to cowardly terrorist attacks whenever they face pressure or their plans, backed by the Iranian regime, falter.

Al-Alimi, during a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, called for international action to designate the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization, ensure the implementation of an arms embargo against it, cut off its funding and arms supply sources, and hold its supporters and those responsible for its violations accountable.
