Houthi Strike on Health Center in Lahj Exacerbates Yemen's Humanitarian Crisis
Houthi shelling of Al-Saqaya Health Center in Lahj killed 5 and injured 15, while the siege of Taiz worsens civilian suffering.

The targeting of Al-Saqaya Health Center in Al-Mudharibah District, Lahj Governorate, by a ballistic missile fired by the Houthi militia has raised concerns about the safety of medical facilities and staff, following the strike that killed five people and injured 15 others, according to an initial tally announced by the Yemeni Ministry of Health on Monday.

Yemeni Prime Minister Sha'ith Mohsen Al-Zandani stressed that the targeting of the center constitutes a crime and a violation of international humanitarian law, affirming that attacks on health facilities deprive civilians of medical care, and warning that the continuation of such attacks encourages further targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Siege of Taiz Worsens Residents' Suffering

In Taiz Governorate, civilians continue to suffer due to the siege imposed on the city and the resulting difficulties in securing basic necessities. Yemeni Foreign Minister Afrah Al-Zoubi, during a broad meeting with representatives of French organizations operating in Yemen, highlighted the repercussions of blocking the delivery of water, food, medicine, and fuel, noting that this has disrupted health services and threatened the lives of patients, especially children and women.

Violations Target Humanitarian Workers

Minister Al-Zoubi also addressed the recruitment of children and the kidnapping of dozens of illiterate employees and humanitarian workers, with some dying during detention, in addition to the targeting of medical facilities and residential neighborhoods, affirming the Yemeni government's commitment to facilitating the work of organizations and enhancing coordination with them to ensure aid reaches its intended beneficiaries. For their part, representatives of French organizations operating in Yemen confirmed their continuation of implementing relief and development programs and delivering aid to beneficiaries in various governorates, despite the field challenges facing their activities.
