Houthis announce death of 10 of their officers in Yemen
Houthis announce death of 10 officers in clashes with government forces and bury them in Sanaa and Hajjah amid ongoing military escalation.

The Yemeni Houthi group announced on Sunday the death of 10 of its officers in clashes with government forces, as military escalation between the two sides continues for months.

The Houthi-affiliated Saba News Agency reported that Colonel Ibrahim Zaid Ali Al-Nono, Colonel Ali Hassan Ali Al-Hajri, and Colonel Adel Abdullah Yahya Al-Sufyani were buried in Sanaa province. The province also saw the burial of Captain Ali Abdullah Ghalib Al-Wasabi, Captain Mohammed Ali Mohammed Al-Joubi, Captain Hussein Hussein Yahya Yahya Saber, Lieutenant Abdullah Saleh Ali Al-Maqri, in addition to Captain Mazen Ahmed Hassan Ghaboush.

For his part, the agency reported that in Hajjah province in northwestern Yemen, Colonel Mazen Khaled Al-Barghashi and Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al-Talh were buried. It stated that the ten elements were killed "while performing their duty to defend the country, its security, and stability."

The Houthi agency did not specify details regarding the time and place of their deaths, and no government comment has been issued on the matter. Military escalation between government forces and the Houthis renewed last July, resulting in the death and injury of thousands of people and the displacement of more than a quarter of a million people, according to UN reports.

This renewed escalation broke the relative calm that Yemen had witnessed since April 2022, while the humanitarian crisis continued and the suffering of the population worsened due to ongoing clashes and displacement. Yemen has been witnessing a war since the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014, before the intervention of an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia in March 2015.

The humanitarian crisis in Yemen continues amid ongoing military confrontations between the Houthis and the internationally recognized government forces for years.
