Houthis kill 3 civilians and injure 5 in Yemen's Taiz
Three civilians killed and five injured in Houthi shelling in Taiz, Yemen, as Yemeni army thwarts large-scale attack.

The Office of Blockade Affairs in Yemen's Taiz governorate announced on Friday evening that three civilians, including two women, were killed and five others, including two women, were injured as a result of shelling launched by the Houthi group on areas in the south and west of the governorate.

The government office clarified in a statement that the victims were Safwan Saeed Obaid (28 years old), Asia Abdul Samad Saeed Ahmed (55 years old), and Safiya Hazaa Saif Al-Badani, noting that the shelling targeted the Sabr Al-Mawadim directorate in the south of the governorate.

For his part, the Yemeni army announced the thwarting of a large-scale Houthi attack at the Shaqb front in southern Taiz, following clashes that lasted eight hours and resulted in the death of 16 group members. The army also launched air strikes on Houthi positions in areas in the west and south of the governorate, targeting military concentrations and equipment.

These developments fall within a military escalation that began last July, and represent the widest since the relative calm witnessed in Yemen following a truce that started in April 2022, amid the ongoing war since the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa in September 2014.
